Shrove Tuesday 2025

Dated: 04 Mar, 2025

What are you giving up for Lent?

Shrove Tuesday, also known as Pancake Day, was traditionally the time to use up ingredients before giving them up for Lent. But what is Fleetmaster giving up for Lent? Not chocolate, we could NEVER do that, so we thought we’d encourage all drivers to give up bad driving habits instead.

Here are 10 bad driving habits that regularly cause road traffic incidents:

  1. Travelling too fast for the conditions / environment.
  2. Following too closely.
  3. Exceeding the speed limit.
  4. Disobeying road signs or markings (e.g. ‘Give Way’ or ‘Stop’ signs).
  5. Illegal turns or direction of travel.
  6. Failing to make effective observations (especially at junctions).
  7. In-vehicle distractions (loud music / phones / eating / drinking / smoking).
  8. Road rage / aggressive driving / risk taking / being in a hurry.
  9. Not using indicators / using indicators incorrectly.
  10. Failing to use mirrors prior to manoeuvres (when changing lanes / turning).

The best way to avoid many of these bad driving habits is to use O.A.P. – Observation, Anticipation & Planning.

The above habits should not just be given up for Lent though, these habits should be removed from your driving permanently!
